Job Description

The senior advisor for state and local tobacco control initiatives serves as a subject matter expert and strategic partner to state and local governments working to reduce the public health harms of e-cigarettes and other tobacco products. This role is integral to advancing the objectives of a program which aims to protect youth and vulnerable communities from the dangers of nicotine addiction and tobacco-related disease through evaluation of flavor restriction policies in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver technical assistance to partners on evaluating and implementing evidence-based programs and policies
  • Provide expert analysis and technical support on key tobacco control principles
  • Support jurisdictions in interpreting and applying evidence-based practices
  • Monitor and interpret emerging trends in tobacco control and use
  • Work with jurisdictions to design and implement performance measures and evaluation plans
  • Travel domestically to provide technical support and disseminate findings
  • Participate in and/or leads special projects and other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of direct experience in tobacco control
  • In-depth knowledge of evidence-based tobacco control strategies
  • Strong understanding of state and local health departments
  • Proven ability to build relationships with public health agencies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Sound judgment and maturity
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 10 percent annually
