Job Description

The Materials Department at CFS is seeking a combination welder to support the welding engineering team. This team supports welding process development for both in- and out-of-house superconducting magnet and tokamak assemblies. The welding engineering team works collaboratively across disciplines to develop weld geometry and techniques, weld specifications, and inspection methods needed for CFS components.

Responsibilities

  • Follow safety procedures
  • Develop advanced welding and joining processes
  • Conduct welding and joining qualification tests
  • Set up and unbox welding equipment
  • Assist in training and knowledge transfer
  • Perform destructive and metallographic testing
  • Provide manufacturability feedback
  • Troubleshoot and resolve welding discrepancies

Requirements

  • Highschool Diploma
  • 5+ years experience as a welder
  • Experience with fabrication of large metallic structures
  • Proficiency with GMAW, GTAW, FCAW processes
  • Experience with laboratory methods for destructive weld and material analysis
  • Aptitude for learning advanced welding processes
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Knowledge of welding equipment and procedures
  • Capacity to work unsupervised
  • Understanding of mathematical and numerical data
  • Project and time management
  • Knowledge of safety practices
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Dedication to safety
  • Willingness to travel occasionally
