Job Description

Cohere Health seeks a Staff Engineer to define and drive the technical vision of their Data Platform team, leading platform-wide design decisions, shaping technical standards, and guiding squads through complex engineering challenges. This role involves leading the technical roadmap, serving as a design authority, driving cross-squad initiatives, and mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive architectural strategy and technical design
• Own the long-term technical roadmap for the Data Platform
• Serve as a trusted advisor and design authority
• Drive cross-squad initiatives
• Continuously evaluate and improve platform reliability and cost-efficiency
• Champion a high standard of engineering rigor
• Mentor and coach engineers
• Evaluate emerging technologies and tools
• Partner with stakeholders
• Design self-service tooling and frameworks
• Actively participate in planning and backlog refinement
• Define and track KPIs
• Participate in on-call rotations

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering
• Expertise in designing and operating large-scale data infrastructure in cloud-based environments
• Fluency in modern data architecture patterns
• Deep understanding of observability, CI/CD, and incident management principles
• Experience shaping engineering standards
• Exceptional ability to communicate technical strategy
• Track record of mentorship and technical leadership
• Experience working with healthcare data is a plus
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline
