Job Description

The New York Times is seeking a First Amendment Fellow for a one-year paid position in its legal department. The fellow will manage freedom of information litigation, assist with libel suits, pre-publication review, advise journalists, litigate access to court records, and handle intellectual property matters.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • J.D. degree from an accredited U.S. school of law
  • Admission to the New York State Bar by or before January 2027
  • Demonstrated interest in media and First Amendment law
  • Outstanding academic record
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
