A Sr Phlebotomist serves patients by identifying the best method for retrieving blood, preparing specimens for laboratory testing, and performing screening procedures.
Responsibilities
Verifies test requisitions and patient identification
Obtains blood specimens through venipunctures and finger sticks
Maintains specimen integrity using aseptic technique
Tracks collected specimens and maintains daily tallies
Maintains quality results by following procedures
Maintains a safe and healthy work environment
Resolves unusual test orders by contacting relevant parties
Updates job knowledge through educational opportunities
Enhances department and hospital reputation
Works with PHI and completes required training
Manages logistical tasks like report printing and scheduling pickups
Answers billing questions and follows up with patients
Requirements
Minimum of 5 years of phlebotomy experience
BS/BA degree (preferred)
High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
Phlebotomy Certificate (if required by State)
Adherence to professional standards, hospital policies, and legal requirements
