Job Description

Gusto is seeking a strategic Head of Machine Learning and AI to lead a newly carved out function, build better customer experiences, and improve operations. This role involves aligning ML/AI use cases with organizational goals, leading teams, and overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of ML/AI projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor Applied ML/AI and Risk Data Science teams
• Define and execute the strategy for Applied ML/AI
• Collaborate with ML Engineering Platform and AI Platform teams
• Oversee the design, development, and deployment of machine learning models
• Partner with stakeholders to identify ML/AI-driven improvements
• Drive the adoption of best practices in model development
• Advocate for responsible AI usage
• Establish KPIs and metrics to track the performance of ML solutions
• Manage team resources, budgets, and timelines
• Stay abreast of the latest developments in machine learning and artificial intelligence

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience leading teams in applied machine learning, AI, or data science
• Expertise in machine learning techniques, statistical modeling, and AI technologies
• Strong software engineering literacy
• Excellent leadership and people management skills
• Strong collaboration and communication skills
• Strategic thinker with a business-first mindset
• Deep understanding of MLOps practices
• Excellent communication skills
• Passion for responsible AI practices
• Advanced degree in computer science, data science, machine learning, or a related field is a plus
• Experience in the Fintech industry or risk management domain is a plus
