Job Description

Lightspeed is seeking a talented and experienced Principal Engineer to join their growing Services organization. The Principal Engineer will guide the design and architecture of critical system components across the Services org, contribute to key parts of the systems, and uplevel engineering craft across the organization by providing technical guidance, promoting best practices, and mentoring fellow engineers.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring systems are well-designed and scalable
• Analyzing systems and infrastructure to improve architecture and performance
• Identifying recurring patterns leading to incidents and creating plans to address them
• Driving improvements in systems reliability and performance
• Improving development practices
• Conducting architectural deep-dives and mentoring team members
• Developing a high-performance culture
• Contributing to organizational objectives

Requirements

• 15+ years of professional experience in software development
• 5+ years of experience as a technical leader for multiple teams
• 2+ years of experience in managing architecture across multiple teams with 35+ engineers
• History of developing business-critical systems at scale on the cloud
• History of delivering key outcomes under challenging timelines
• Experience in more than one technology stack
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to moderate technical conversations and make quick decisions
