Job Description

Gusto is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the worker-focused Members Experience team, responsible for building and scaling the Gusto app. This team empowers workers by enabling seamless access, delivering core experiences, and addressing key jobs to be done. The role involves leading a team of engineers, collaborating with cross-functional partners, and driving innovation to enhance core mobile experiences and ensure a consistent, high-quality user experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and scale the team by recruiting, mentoring, and developing engineers.
  • Partner across different business units to deliver end-to-end product experiences.
  • Own delivery of technical solutions, balancing technical excellence with business outcomes.
  • Drive strategic roadmaps, setting priorities and defining short-term and long-term goals.
  • Foster innovation and continuous improvement within the team.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including backend systems and native mobile development.
  • 2–4 years of engineering management experience.
  • Experience leading multi-quarter, large-scale technical initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of multi-platform products (iOS, Android, backend APIs).
  • Experience building horizontal platform solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • A strong service mindset.
