Job Description

Planet Labs is seeking a Propulsion Engineer to support the design, integration, and testing of spacecraft propulsion systems. The role involves working with thrusters, PPUs, and various test equipment, including thermal and vacuum chambers. Responsibilities include environmental testing, vendor management, and in-house component production. This is a full-time, hybrid position based in San Francisco.

Responsibilities

  • Support Acceptance, Testing, and Integration (AI&T) of the Planet Next satellite constellation
  • Lead environmental test campaigns for propulsion systems
  • Participate in test campaign planning and coordination
  • Conduct qualification testing of propulsion systems
  • Provide functional and environmental testing support for HETs and PPUs
  • Develop test fixtures for propulsion systems
  • Maintain the environmental lab
  • Design and test equipment for spacecraft and subsystem transportation
  • Implement 5s methodology in the qual lab and model shop
  • Design, assemble, and test tools and equipment for spacecraft launch integration
  • Support Launch Integration

Requirements

  • 4+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with test equipment like thermal chambers, TVAC chambers, power supplies, multimeters, and oscilloscopes
  • HET assembly and testing experience in a high vacuum environment
  • Experience with electric propulsion thrusters such as HETs
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and make quality decisions
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Experience with Engineering Documentation Control, G-Suite, and Jira
  • Experience resolving routine issues
  • Superior attention to detail and passion for quality
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with propulsion system components
  • Willingness to travel within and outside the United States
