CQ Roll Call is seeking an experienced journalist to cover energy and environmental policy through news stories and co-write a daily newsletter. The role involves writing about Congress, the executive branch, and the federal judiciary for a sophisticated audience.

Responsibilities

• Covering news and writing policy-oriented features
• Co-writing the CQ Energy newsletter
• Working in the office and in the Capitol
• Developing a network of sources
• Using data to inform reporting
• Writing a mix of spot news and enterprise
• Demonstrating expertise through podcasts and webinars
• Pitching story ideas
• Covering committee markups and entering amendments

Requirements

• At least 4 years of daily journalism experience
• Experience covering Congress or the federal government
• Experience writing about energy and environmental policy
• Ability to write quickly and cleanly
• Ability to track congressional activity
• Mastering AP, CQ Roll Call style and congressional terminology
• Deep understanding of journalistic values
• Familiarity with content management systems
