Job Description

The NYISO's Legal department is seeking a full-time Attorney to provide legal support on issues such as transmission planning, tariff requirements, and stakeholder processes. The candidate will prepare legal documents, advise clients on regulatory requirements, and represent the NYISO in regulatory proceedings.

Responsibilities

  • Draft pleadings for FERC and NYPSC
  • Provide support to internal clients on matters before the NYISO's shared governance process
  • Assist with the preparation and review of legal documents and contracts
  • Represent the NYISO in regulatory proceedings
  • Assist with the development of strategy, arguments, and testimony
  • Conduct research regarding laws, rulings, and regulations
  • Confer with colleagues to develop NYISO position or legal strategy
  • Review and propose modifications to NYISO and department policies
  • Represent legal department at internal NYISO committees
  • Gather evidence and information for management decision making
  • Assist with negotiation of contracts
  • Conduct research regarding proposed legislation

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Minimum of five years of related experience practicing before FERC or a state regulatory commission on energy matters
  • Prior experience at an ISO/RTO, public utility, energy marketing company or a legal position at a state Public Service Commission (PSC)
  • License to practice law required
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex documents
  • Ability to write and effectively edit legal documents
  • Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts
  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking
  • Intermediate competency in Windows operating environment using MS Office applications
  • Proficient in legal research tools and programs
