Job Description

The CDC Foundation seeks a full-time Microbiologist to assist and support lab-based tasks, focusing on elimination and control efforts for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). Responsibilities include expressing and purifying recombinant proteins, using serological techniques, evaluating new tests, and assay development.

Responsibilities

• Design and carry out laboratory procedures, experiments, gene cloning and expression, protein purification, and serological techniques
• Support the evaluation and optimization of new tests and assays
• Ensure correct conduct of routine methods and quality controls
• Complete training in laboratory standard operating procedures
• Calibrate and operate laboratory instruments
• Perform advanced techniques to measure host immune responses
• Draft, revise, and disseminate procedures
• Ensure adherence to quality management system parameters
• Develop assays for NTD control and elimination
• Document and prepare analyses and reports
• Evaluate progress of studies
• Analyze serological data
• Prepare and edit reports
• Assist with inventory control and procurement
• Travel domestically and internationally as needed

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in microbiology or related field
• 3-5 years of laboratory experience in serological techniques or protein expression and purification
• Working knowledge and experience with Neglected Tropical Diseases
• Knowledge and experience in performing specialized tests and evaluations
• Highly detail oriented and able to prioritize
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Outstanding teamwork skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience in developing rapid diagnostic tests
• Knowledge of CDC and APHL Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) 12 Quality Systems Essentials (QSEs) and Quality Management Systems (QMS)
• Ability to maintain laboratory records
