Job Description

Horace Mann is seeking a knowledgeable and compassionate Employee Relations Consultant to join our Human Resources team. This critical position plays a pivotal role in ensuring a positive, compliant, and performance-focused workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex employee relations matters
  • Provide expert consultation on employment laws and HR practices
  • Lead the development of ER-related procedures and resources
  • Serve as the designated contact for complaint intake and resolution
  • Partner with business leaders to ensure consistent handling of performance-related issues
  • Advise HR leadership on employee relations trends and workforce risks
  • Collaborate to support performance management and conflict resolution
  • Identify organizational training needs and support ER-related programs
  • Provide guidance on performance conversations and termination decisions
  • Lead or oversee investigations into reports of misconduct and policy violations
  • Maintain timely and confidential documentation of employee relations cases
  • Analyze ER case data to identify trends and recommend strategies
  • Track and report on complaints and performance-related matters
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and HR policies
  • Partner with Legal and Compliance teams to address sensitive cases
  • Support internal and external audits
  • Monitor organizational risk factors related to employee conduct

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required
  • Minimum of three years of employee relations experience required
  • Experience in handling performance issues and conducting investigations
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage emotionally charged situations with professionalism
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust across all levels
  • Highly organized with attention to documentation and reporting
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours when needed
  • Role demands a high degree of confidentiality and discretion
