Job Description

ClassDojo seeks a Head of Commercial Legal to draft, negotiate, and manage commercial contracts; collaborate with Sales and Legal leadership; partner with cross-functional teams; provide legal guidance; escalate high-risk issues; and track and improve legal processes. The ideal candidate will have a JD or equivalent and 7+ years of post-qualification legal experience, deep experience with commercial transactions, strong contract drafting and negotiation skills, knowledge of U.S. data privacy laws, excellent communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and strong business judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, negotiate, and manage commercial contracts
  • Collaborate with Sales and Legal leadership to establish playbooks and fallback terms
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Finance, IT, Product, Engineering)
  • Provide legal guidance on data privacy, risk mitigation, and contract strategy
  • Escalate high-risk or complex issues to senior leadership
  • Track and improve legal processes and systems

Requirements

  • JD or equivalent and 7+ years of post-qualification legal experience
  • Deep experience with commercial transactions (ideally in technology or edtech)
  • Strong skills in drafting and negotiating contracts (including SaaS and public sector agreements)
  • Knowledge of U.S. data privacy laws (FERPA, COPPA, state regs; GDPR a plus)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative mindset, strong business judgment, ability to navigate ambiguity
  • Proactive and empathetic approach to cross-functional partnership
