Job Description

Lead the identification, assessment, and execution of acquisition opportunities aligning with Toptal’s strategic growth objectives, particularly in talent, IT services, and tech product ecosystems. Source and initiate M&A discussions, own deal execution, support post-acquisition integration, and performance tracking. Manage multiple concurrent deals, balance strategic thinking with execution, and communicate with C-level stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and reach out to business owners and founders to build an acquisition pipeline
  • Develop creative sourcing approaches
  • Represent Toptal in founder conversations
  • Lead commercial, financial, and operational diligence
  • Develop deal theses and valuation models
  • Negotiate deal terms and structure
  • Present deal rationale to senior executives
  • Communicate trade-offs and integration implications
  • Partner with functional leads to build and oversee integration plans
  • Track post-close performance of acquired companies
  • Help codify Toptal’s M&A playbook
  • Mentor junior team members

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in M&A, corporate development, investment banking, or private equity (experience with tech services or product-based acquisitions preferred)
  • Demonstrated success sourcing and closing small-cap, founder-led deals
  • Experience initiating and managing founder outreach
  • Experience with post-acquisition integration and performance monitoring
  • Ability to present deals to C-level leadership
  • Understanding of valuation, deal structuring, and strategic fit analysis
  • Exceptional modeling skills in Excel and Google Sheets
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organization skills
