Job Description

The ACLU is seeking a Summer Legal Intern for its Human Rights Program in New York City. This hybrid position offers the opportunity to conduct human rights and legal research, contribute to domestic and international advocacy, and gain experience working alongside a dedicated team. The intern will support the Program’s efforts to hold the U.S. government accountable to its international human rights obligations.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting legal and policy research
  • Drafting memoranda, affidavits and briefs
  • Researching prospects for new litigation
  • Drafting materials for public education and human rights documentation
  • Drafting materials for advocacy before regional and international bodies

Requirements

  • Currently matriculated legal student
  • Based in the U.S. for the duration of the internship
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Initiative to complete projects
  • Knowledge of human rights framework is a plus
  • Experience with immigration and criminal legal system issues is a plus
