Job Description

The ACLU is seeking a Summer Legal Intern for the National Prison Project in Washington D.C. This internship involves supporting litigation and advocacy work focused on improving conditions in prisons, jails, and detention centers, and reducing incarceration rates. The position can be remote or hybrid and is open to current law students.

Responsibilities

  • Researching and drafting legal memoranda and briefs
  • Gathering and analyzing information on detention conditions
  • Researching prospects for new litigation
  • Assisting with advocacy and public education materials
  • Providing litigation and advocacy support

Requirements

  • Second or third year law student
  • ABA-accredited law school
  • Completed at least one year of law school
  • Interest in incarcerated people's rights
  • Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills
  • Analytical and organizational skills
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)
