Job Description

The ACLU is seeking a Summer Legal Intern for its Program on Freedom of Religion and Belief in Washington, D.C. The intern will assist attorneys with litigation, public education, and advocacy related to religious liberty, gaining experience in legal research, writing, and case development.

Responsibilities

  • Drafting memoranda, affidavits, and briefs
  • Conducting legal and policy research
  • Researching prospects for new litigation
  • Drafting materials for public education
  • Tracking and analyzing legislative bills

Requirements

  • Currently matriculated legal student
  • Based in the U.S. for the duration of the internship
  • Excellent research, writing, analytical, and communication skills
  • Initiative and ability to work collaboratively
  • Strong interest in civil rights and civil liberties
  • Completed at least one year of law school before summer 2026
