Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager for Sustaining Engineering to lead a distributed team focused on improving open source software by resolving customer-reported defects. This role emphasizes people management, technical leadership, and fostering a collaborative engineering culture. The team supports a wide range of technologies, including the kernel, user space applications, and IaaS platforms.

Responsibilities

• Manage and lead a distributed team of engineers
• Hire, coach, mentor, and provide career development
• Manage KPIs and training
• Support delivery of bug fixes and technical solutions
• Demonstrate excellence in customer interactions
• Manage expectations with stakeholders
• Advance modern software development practices
• Grow a collaborative engineering culture
• Collaborate with other teams

Requirements

• Professional software delivery experience (C, C++, Go, Python, etc.)
• Knowledge and passion for software development
• Leadership experience in problem resolution
• Experience with version control (git)
• Experience with debugging tools (gdb, crash)
• Commitment to testing and code quality
• Excellent English communication skills
• Experience with Linux (Ubuntu preferred)
• Experience with Open Source
