Job Description

Canonical is seeking experienced engineering leaders to guide teams across their Ubuntu Engineering organization. This role involves building, nurturing, and developing high-performing engineering teams focused on quality, performance, and resilience. Leaders will be responsible for technical roadmaps, team growth, and contributing to the broader open-source community.

Responsibilities

  • Lead teams in elevating the Linux developer experience
  • Design, build, and ship high-quality software
  • Demonstrate sound engineering principles
  • Plan, estimate, and execute projects
  • Work with product management to define vision and strategy
  • Coach, mentor, and develop engineers
  • Contribute to upstream open source projects
  • Optimize distribution for performance, reliability, and security
  • Debug complex system-level issues

Requirements

  • Exceptional academic record
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM
  • Ability to drive and deliver technical work
  • Experience leading and coaching engineering teams
  • Passion for open source software
  • Experience with Rust, Go, Python, Flutter, or C/C++
  • Professional English communication skills
  • Result-oriented with commitment to meeting goals
  • Ability to travel twice a year
